Salary: £26,522 per annum
Contract: Permanent, full‑time (37.5 hours)
Hours: Monday - Friday, 8:30–17:00
Location: Blended - primarily on‑site at the Digital Telepathology Hub, Lab 507, The Heath Business & Technical Park, Runcorn WA7 4QX, with some flexibility between home and hub depending on business need.

Join Medica as a Digital Pathology Assistant and play a key role in delivering safe, efficient diagnostic services for patients. You’ll help run our Digital Telepathology Hub - organising workflow, scanning and quality checking slides and images, and collaborating with clinical colleagues and clients to keep the service moving smoothly. Training is provided on all equipment and systems. (Also known as: Telepathology Assistant, Digital Histology Technician, Pathology Workflow Coordinator.)
What you’ll do
Receive and unpack casework and stock; book cases into the IT system
Scan slides using the P1000 and manage images in Sectra PACS
Complete quality checks to recognised procedures and resolve discrepancies
Coordinate collections/uplift and keep the lab area safe and tidy (housekeeping routines and equipment checks)
Communicate clearly with colleagues, pathologists, clients and external partners to meet agreed clinical requirements
Work in line with ISO 15189 (and, where applicable, ISO 27001 & ISO 9001) and relevant legislation, including the Data Protection Act 2018, GDPR and Caldicott Principles
Job requirements
What you’ll bring
High standards and excellent attention to detail, with familiarity in checking forms/images/slides
Comfortable working in a small team and working independently; reliable and organised
Good IT skills (e.g. Microsoft Office) and confident written/verbal communication
Sound judgement on workflow and prioritisation, with a customer‑focused approach
It’d be great (not essential) if you also have:
Awareness of digital pathology and histology, or a science‑related background (e.g. biomedical or digital pathology)
Experience in a clinical or hospital lab, and/or prior use of medical scanning equipment
Experience working to ISO 15189

Overtime / On‑call: None currently required (may evolve with service growth)
